A girl with a camera was a fixture of many American restaurants during the mid-twentieth century. This souvenir photo folder comes from a night out at Boggio’s. Accession #2009.76.2, History Colorado, Denver, Colorado.

A souvenir photo from Boggio’s, signed by the men in the photo, with the note, “E.J. Chas. Hicks the Best Waiter in Denver.” Accession #2009.76.2, History Colorado, Denver, Colorado.

Owner Nate Boggio rode to Cheyenne Frontier Days with Bob Hope once. Maybe that’s where the recommendation on the postcard came from. From authors’ collection.

The years between 1945 and 1965 brought as much change to Denver as any two-decade span since the 1859 gold rush. First, the city doubled in population from approximately 300,000 in 1930 to nearly 600,000 in 1960. This period of suburbs, shopping centers, and big cars also represents a transitional moment in how Denverites—and all Americans—ate.
